SOUTH
OF FRANCE SALADS IN WEST HOLLYWOOD

Traveling south towards the French Riviera and the
Cannes Film Festival, one may find themselves in the town of
Provence
. Blending the elegance and
class of the French and the health consciousness of
Southern California
, Salades de Provence brings delicious organic salads, quiches, crepes and
an array of desserts to the corner of
Holloway Drive
and La Cienega north of
Santa Monica Blvd.
Situated within walking
distance from a number of condominiums and small businesses, the word is
spreading throughout LA about Salades de Provence.
After parking around the corner and walking toward the small quaint
corner restaurant on a dark rainy evening, Salades interior lights stood
out like a “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” print.
On this evening was able to meet the owner Richard
Makinadjian where he told me about his inspiration for his restaurant. I
started with French onion soup which quickly warmed me from the cold
outside weather. The Salade
“a la mode” made with fresh prawns in marinated curry sauce,
caramelized pork, noodles, fresh soya sprouts and cherry tomatoes on a bed
of lettuce was just the perfect meal after my long commute from the OC.
As a frequent reviewer of dining establishments in
Hollywood
and the Westside, I found it refreshing to have a lighter course meal
which didn’t make me feel like an boat anchor “weighing me down”.
There was plenty of room on our stomachs to try the
Nutella Crepe filled with strawberries, bananas, chocolate topped with
whip cream with my guest. Other
light-faire dishes include dozens of different types of salads and
quiches. They also serve breakfast and are open daily from
9:00 am
to
9:30 pm
everyday. Due to after work
traffic congestion getting to the restaurant, I would leverage the
non-congested off-hours offered by the restaurant and come by for a late
lunch (
2:30 PM
) or dinner (
8:30 PM
). Definitely try out Salades
de Provence where good South of France salads and quiches are found on
North La Cienaga in
West Hollywood
.
